Recreating Victorian wallpaper

We have worked with a number of specialists to recreate Holst's family home, from paint historians to...

Recently we worked with Cole & Son, acclaimed manufacturers of fine wallpapers since 1875, to produce authentic designs for our Regency Sitting Room and Victorian Bedroom.

A ‘Quatrefoil’ design was chosen for the Regency Sitting Room and uses an original 1830 woodblock from the Cole & Son archive. Quatrefoil was printed with a mica ground, originally used to give a strong metallic finish, reminiscent of silk wall hangings.

A ‘Marigold’ design was chosen for the Victorian Bedroom and was created using an original roller in the Cole & Son archive. Marigold is originally a ‘choke’ print, which means that the design is not carved in relief and when printed the ground forms the actual print colour.
