Holst Birthplace Trust: vacancy for trustee with responsibility for marketing

Would you like to join a Board of enthusiastic and dedicated Trustees who ensure that a unique Cheltenham museum continues to be an asset to the town? The Holst Birthplace Museum is a small independent museum, run by the Holst Birthplace Trust, a registered charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is one of only two composer birthplace museums in the country and visitors can learn about Holst’s life, his music, his family and friendships, whilst being reminded of domestic life in a Victorian House.

The Trust is seeking to appoint an additional Trustee with a strong marketing background who can help in the development of a marketing plan for the Museum and assist the Curator and other Trustees in the promotion of the Museum as an attraction of cultural, architectural and historical interest. The appointment will be for an initial three-year term, which can be extended for a further three years.

This is an especially exciting time to become involved with the development of the Museum as we are embarking upon a rebranding project to enhance the presentation of the house as a Victorian residence in the context of the lives lived there. We are also taking significant steps to upgrade and improve our digital presence.

Alongside the usual duties of a Trustee – including giving strategic direction, setting overall policy, ensuring effective and efficient administration and financial stability – the Trustees are expected to play a role in the life of the Museum and to take a hands-on approach to their area of responsibility.

In normal circumstances, the Board meets every 6 weeks, in Cheltenham, usually on a Wednesday afternoon. Alternative web-based arrangements have been made for meetings during the COVID pandemic.
